Flush Platform — The Seamless Look
A flush platform matches the exact footprint of your pool and sits level with the surrounding deck. No step-up, no transition. From across the yard, the deck just continues — the pool reads as if it was never there. This is what most planners want for sit-down weddings and high-end corporate events, especially when the pool is a focal point of the property’s design.
Plexiglass Dance Floor — The Dramatic Look
A clear or partially clear acrylic surface lets guests dance directly over the water. At night, with landscape lighting under the pool, the floor glows from below. We build plexiglass platforms differently than our standard ones because the aesthetics matter as much as the structure — you’re looking at it as much as standing on it.
Staged Platform — The Practical Option
Our standard build is a staged platform sitting roughly six inches above the deck. It’s faster to install and significantly more affordable than either flush or plexiglass. Surfaced with turf, vinyl, carpet, or dance floor panels, it works for nearly any event. We mention it here because most of our clients combine approaches — a staged build for the majority of the cover, with a flush or plexiglass section as the visual centerpiece.
What It Costs
Pricing comes down to three things: pool size, surface material, and whether the build is staged or flush. A flush plexiglass platform costs several times what a staged turf cover costs. We don’t publish numbers because every pool is different and a wrong estimate helps no one. Why the Crew Matters More Than the Materials
A pool cover that looks elegant in photos is the easy part. What you actually want is a crew that’s done this enough times to handle the things that go wrong on event day — and the things that have to be designed around before the day even starts. Opus has been building pool covers since 2014. Our lead crew has 17 to 20 years of experience each. We do 80 to 100 installs every year.
For your event, that means the site gets inspected before install, every platform is engineered above the stated guest count (with a real safety buffer, not a marketing claim), the install runs to schedule, and breakdown doesn’t damage your deck. Opus is also fully insured.
Installation Timeline
For a residential weekend event, we install on Wednesday or Thursday and remove on Monday or Tuesday the following week. That window gives florists, draping, lighting, and place setting crews time to build on top of a finished platform without anyone rushing on event day.
For hotels and commercial venues where the pool needs to stay accessible as long as possible, we schedule timed installs around your operations. Same-day installs are possible at additional cost.
What dance floor surface looks most elegant for a wedding pool cover?
The most photographed choices for upscale weddings are hardwood-look vinyl (matches indoor ballroom flooring), custom-color carpet (often white or ivory), and plexiglass. Plexiglass is the most premium option because the platform itself becomes part of the design — guests see the water through the surface.
Can the dance floor surface be matched to a wedding’s color palette?
Yes. Carpet, turf, and vinyl all come in custom colors. We’ve done ivory and white for weddings, deep tones for corporate galas, and patterned vinyl for themed events. Dance floor panels also come in a range of styles from the standard dance floor catalog.
Is the platform stable enough for a live band, DJ, or sound equipment?
Yes. The platform is engineered above the stated guest capacity, and we routinely support live entertainment setups including bands, DJ rigs, lighting trusses, and amplified sound. Each platform is built with the specific event load in mind.
Can we place tables, lounge furniture, or a cake table on the covered pool area?
Absolutely. The covered surface is fully usable event space — guests dine, sit, and lounge on it the same way they would on a permanent deck. Many of our weddings put the cake table, sweetheart seating, or lounge groupings directly on the pool cover.
Will the pool cover look like an obvious add-on, or like part of the venue?
With a flush platform built to the pool’s exact shape and finished in the right surface, the cover becomes invisible — guests assume the space is a permanent feature of the property. Staged platforms are more obviously a built structure, but still finish cleanly. The choice depends on the look you want and the budget.
Are pool-cover dance floors quieter or louder than regular outdoor dance floors?
About the same. The wood-framed platform doesn’t amplify sound the way some assume — the water actually absorbs vibration. Most clients are surprised by how solid and quiet the surface feels underfoot.
