Pool Cover for Events
A pool cover turns your pool from an event obstacle into usable space — or a centerpiece, depending on what you build. Opus has installed pool covers for LA events since 2014: 80 to 100 installs a year, weddings up to 300-400 guests, residential backyards through hotel rooftops, every shape and size short of an Olympic pool. The crew has 20+ years of pool cover experience across multiple members. We’ve never damaged a pool.
Pools and Spaces We Cover
Most of our work is California backyard pools — the design pattern is well understood. We also build for:
- Backyard residential pools — every shape and size short of Olympic
- Hotel rooftop pools — including high-rise rooftops with limited access
- Indoor pools — less common in LA, but we’ve done them
- Fountains and water features — same engineering, smaller scale
- Pool + surrounding deck — we can cover the pool alone or the pool plus deck space around it. Our biggest builds run around 40 by 60 feet of platform total, with the pool underneath being 20×40 or 26×40.
All Opus platforms are walk-on covers — engineered to support guests standing, walking, dancing, sitting, and lounging. There’s no separate “decorative cover” vs “structural cover” — every cover we build is structurally rated for an active event.
Two Platform Types
Staged Platform
The standard build: roughly six inches above the deck. Faster to install, significantly more affordable, and works for nearly every event. Most clients choose staged. The slight step-up reads as intentional — the platform feels like a defined event space rather than blending into the deck.
Flush Platform
Matches the exact footprint of your pool and sits level with the surrounding deck. No step-up, no transition — the pool reads as if it isn’t there. More expensive than staged, more time to install. Worth it for sit-down weddings, high-end corporate events, or any time the seamless look is the point.
Surface Options
Once the platform is built, the finish is your call:
- Turf in black or green (standard), or any custom color
- Carpet in any color
- Vinyl in any color or style — including hardwood-look finishes
- Dance floor panels from our standard catalog
- Plexiglass — our premium option, structured differently because it has to look good as well as carry weight. Lets guests dance directly over the water.
- Around the platform, many hosts add cabanas and draped fabric structures for shade and a finished look.
Most clients combine surfaces — a staged turf cover for the bulk of the space with a plexiglass section, dance floor panel area, or vinyl detail as the centerpiece. We’ve also built unique installations: jacuzzi covers integrated with main pool platforms, partial covers leaving part of the pool exposed for decoration, custom catwalks across water features.
How the Install Works
Your pool needs no preparation. The pool stays full — no draining, no lowering water levels, nothing. Our crew stays dry; in over a decade of pool covers we’ve gotten in the water maybe twice. The platform is built and anchored on top of the existing pool deck. After the event, breakdown leaves only some dust from the work, which we clean before we go. We’ve never damaged a pool.
Timing
Most clients book 6-8 weeks ahead of their event. Same-week bookings are possible when our calendar allows it. For residential weekend events, we install on Wednesday or Thursday and remove on Monday or Tuesday the following week — that window gives florists, lighting designers, and other vendors space to build on top of a finished platform without rushing on event day. For hotels and commercial venues, we schedule installs around your operations.
Pricing and Booking
Three things drive cost: pool size, surface material, and whether the build is staged or flush. A flush plexiglass cover for a 20×40 pool runs several times what a basic staged turf cover runs. We don’t publish numbers because every install is engineered for the specific pool — a wrong estimate doesn’t help anyone.
Initial ballpark quotes come back the same business day from photos of your pool (or a Google Earth view). For a final number, we book a site visit. To reserve a date, we collect a 50% deposit, with the balance due before the event. Cancellations within 10 days of the event forfeit the deposit; cancellations before that can be rescheduled.

Yes. Every Opus pool cover platform is engineered to support guests standing, walking, dancing, and lounging. There’s no separate decorative-only version.
Will the cover damage my pool?
No. We’ve installed pool covers since 2014 — 80 to 100 a year — and have never damaged a pool. Our weight goes onto the deck around the pool, not into the water.
Does my pool need to be drained?
No. The pool stays completely full. We don’t get in the water and you don’t have to do anything to prepare the pool before we arrive.
How far in advance should I book?
Most clients book 6-8 weeks out. Last-minute bookings (within a week) are possible based on our availability.
What’s the deposit and cancellation policy?

Do you cover indoor or rooftop pools?
Yes — backyard pools are the majority of our work, but we also cover hotel rooftop pools, indoor pools, fountains, and water features. The engineering is the same; the access and logistics differ.
